Josey Contreras, a true Tejana, her heart and faith is rooted deep in tejano music and its culture. Her singing style is a mix between Tejano and Conjunto, definitely something new in the industry. With a high level of commitment to her music, Josey is well known for always giving more than what is expected in her performance. If you have been fortunate enough, you may have already had the opportunity to see Josey perform around the Fort Worth / Dallas area at FAMSA, the Bud Light Wednesday Concert Series, or in events sponsored by Unvision like Viva Dallas, Fiestas Patrias at Texas Stadium, Vive Tu Vida over the past couple of years. One of her biggest highlights was performing with Jay Perez at the Artist Square in Downtown Dallas, during the Wednesday Night Concert Series. In 1996, Josey had a rare opportunity to appear in a Church’s Chicken commercial with Tejano legend Jay Perez. Ever since, Jay Perez has been her biggest influence. "Jay has constantly reminded me that no matter how hard times get in the Tejano industry that I should never give up, stay strong, and to keep going. Hearing comments like this from artists and fans, that alone is what keeps me going for my dream to become a well-known Tejano Artist and go beyond any boundaries so that Tejano music can be on the map.", Josey said. At the 2007 Fan Fair in San Antonio, Josey was able to perform some of her own material. Almost every song is from a woman’s point of view. Her two favorite songs are “Mentiras” and “Punto Final”, Mentiras is mainly about how a woman decided to give up on the relationship since her love didn’t believe her over the other, and Punto Final has a strong sense of “leave me alone”, “there’s nothing for you here”, and “don’t try to interrogate me” type of mentality. As an artist, Josey hopes to inspire the Tejano fans as well as others, to our culture and love for our Tejano music.
